Karina is from San Diego, California. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.A. in Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations and Marketing. Her desire to volunteer and experience life abroad is what led Karina to TTC after two years in the private sector, post-graduation. She is currently teaching english conversation to high school freshmen and sophomores at Wang Nuea Wittaya.
Malcom King is from Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated with a B.S. with a major in Chemistry and Business from Mercer University. Malcom wants to pursue a career in medicine, but decided to take a gap year. His main goal in life is to impact lives while having his own life impacted by those that he can touch. Malcom is teaching Science and English to grades 7-12. He is also a running coach at one of the schools where he teaches.
Michael Chen grew up in the heart of Silicon Valley: Palo Alto, California. He graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics. Michael teaches Prathom 1-6 at Anuban Hang Chat School in Hang Chat, Lampang. He joined TTC to achieve his passion that he could positively impact the minds of his students each and every day, despite the language barrier.
Emily Dokken is from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where she majored in Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Religion. She currently teaches Anuban 1-3 (kindergarten) in Mae Moh and lives in the nearby city of Lampang. She is happy that TTC has allowed her to live within a community as a member rather than a tourist.
Ryan Nies is from the island of Coronado, California. He graduated from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Statistics. Ryan is taking this time in Thailand to figure out his career goals, while gaining an invaluable experience. He currently teaches high school juniors and seniors in Wang Nuea. From his experience, one great teacher can make a lasting impact on a student’s life -- that’s why he chose to volunteer with TTC.
Jack McAfee is from Beaverton, Oregon and graduated from Baylor University with B.A. in both History and Theatre Arts. He teaches English and Health at Pettpitayasan School in Bamnet Narong. He enjoys getting his students to think and learn in creative ways. In his English Club Class, Jack applies his experience as an actor and engages the kids with various performance-based games.
Courtney Johnson has lived in various countries, such as Germany and South Korea, but was most recently settled in Locust Grove, GA. Courtney attended Mercer University and is taking a gap year with TTC. She is thankful toward TTC for granting her the opportunity to serve and explore Thailand. She teaches Anuban (Kindergarten) at Wat Methang Karawas School in Phrae, Thailand.
Haleigh Griffin is a graduate of Mercer University. She spent those years studying psychology, business, and Spanish. She’s in Thailand because she was looking for something meaningful to do during her time between college and pursuing her master’s degree. She is teaching Prathom 3 at Anuban Thoen, Thoen, Lampang District. She is happy she chose to come here because the people she has met have been genuine, kind, and incredibly generous.
Melanie graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in Biology and a double minor in Anthropology and Psychology. She decided to join TTC because she believes that everyone deserves access to quality education. Her passion for traveling and desire to immerse herself in and experience a new culture led her to Thailand. She is currently teaching conversational English to grades 1-4 at Wat Methang Karawas School in Phrae.
Angela Lent is from Seabrook, New Hampshire. She graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia with a BA in Global Development Studies and a minor in Business Administration. She currently teaches Prathom 1 and 2 at Anuban Thoen School in southern Lampang. She has made meaningful connections with her students, their parents, and many community members, and has enjoyed exploring Thailand and the quaint town of Thoen.
Jade Thompson is a graduate of Mercer University. She was born in Illinois but has lived all over the world with her family. Jade has always worked with children, so she thought combining traveling and teaching would be the perfect way to step out of her comfort zone and into the world to help make it a better place, while also learning valuable things about herself. She currently teaches Anuban in Phrae.
