Volunteer Teacher profiles

Bryn is from Leawood, Kansas. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2023 with a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology. She teaches Matthayom 3, 5, and 6 (U.S. high school freshmen, juniors, and seniors) at Sob Prab Pittayakhom in Sob Prab, Lampang. Bryn has a past of English tutoring and is passionate about the positive benefits of learning the language. Outside the classroom, she can be found reading at a cafe, hanging out with other teachers in Mueang Lampang, or playing Stardew Valley.

Khaled is a polyglot with a creative spirit from Burundi. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a minor in psychology from the United States International University - Africa. Khaled has a strong interest in languages and cultural immersion, always seeking opportunities to learn and understand Thai culture and language. He taught and guided students aged 6 to 12 years old. He particularly enjoys being active in his community, staying fit, and writing stories and documentaries about his experiences. The opportunity with TTC not only allowed him to expand his professional experience but also inspired him to grow and develop as a young African leader. 

 Liora is from Westchester, New York. She graduated from Barnard College in New York City with a B.A. in Mathematical Sciences and a minor in Elementary Urban Teaching. She teaches Prathom 1 through 6 (U.S. grades 1-6) at a Mini English Program at Anuban Thoen in Thoen, Lampang. Liora chose to volunteer with TTC because of her passion for elementary education and learning about education systems around the world. When she is not teaching, she is often walking around Thoen searching for the best coffee spot, eating pad see ew, or working out at the gym. She looks forward to a year of new experiences and growth on her journey as an educator.  

Madeline is from Cumming, Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Modern Languages with a minor in Political Science from the University of North Georgia. She teaches English Conversation and English Vocabulary courses to Mattayom 2-6 students (US grades 8-12) at Thoen Wittaya School, bringing her background in education and passion for language learning into her lessons. Outside of the classroom, she can be found trying out new coffee shops, playing badminton, or riding her motorbike to see the sunset. Madeline is thrilled for this opportunity to learn about foreign language education and international development through TTC, and she looks forward to a year of helping students become more confident in their English skills through building community and making learning fun. 

Derek is from Knoxville Tennesse and is an upcoming Sophomore at Baylor University studying Philosophy, Comparative Literature, and French. They teach a wide range of grades: from Kindergarten to Mattayom 3 at Ban Sra School in Chiang Muan, Phayao. Derek chose to volunteer with TTC for the summer to further their passion of learning about other cultures and languages through direct immersion and to gain hands-on teaching experience. When not at school, you can find Derek reading and writing in a local coffee shop or distractedly wandering around the local national park. They prioritize the importance of fun and passion when learning, and seek to bring excitement to their ESL classroom.

Celia is from Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a B.A. in Philosophy and a minor in Political Science. She teaches Mattayom 3, 5, and 6 (U.S. grades 9, 11, and 12) at Sobprab Pittayakom in Sobprab, Lampang. Celia chose to volunteer with TTC due to her passions for service and travel, and to explore a career in education. When she is not teaching, she is often going for a motorbike ride or trying a new restaurant in Sobprab. She looks forward to a year of community building in and out of the classroom.

Melissa attended Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. earning her Bachelor's of Science degree in Nutrition.  She has been teaching nutrition and cooking to youth of all ages for the last ten years. She brings her passion for teaching, service to community, love of travel and cooking into the classroom to share with her students. She teaches M1-6 at MaeTha Wittaya, appreciates the small classes at her school and the opportunity to get to know the students individually and by name.  She finds that making learning fun and engaging helps her students learn by doing, in a relaxed environment.   

Katrina has moved all around the United States and lived in France and Italy, and she called Wellesley College in Massachusetts home for the past 4 years before going to Thailand. She graduated in Spring 2022 with a Bachelors in Political Science with a minor in Biology. She hopes to one day go to medical school. She is thrilled to be teaching Mattayom 1-6 at Mae Tha Wittaya in Mae Tha, Lampang. Katrina is so happy to be accepted into her community and to learn all she can from her neighbors, students, fellow teachers, and the amazing culture of Thailand. You can catch her in Mae Tha out running, playing with the Ban Luang Handball team, or cooking for her loved ones! :) 

Aaron was born in New York City and raised in Miami, Florida. He graduated from the Florida International University Honors College with a degree in International Relations. He has volunteered in Thailand with AISEC and studied at Mahidol University. He is excited to be back in Thailand, teaching at Ban Sra school in Phayao province. He has always been interested in the history and future of Southeast Asia and hopes that teaching at TTC will help him act as an ambassador for the U.S and a curious traveller. No matter what, he will pet stray cats along the way. 

Ellie is from Cincinnati, Ohio. They graduated from Earlham College in 2020 with a B.A. in Comparative Languages and Linguistics. They plan on pursuing a masters degree in TESOL. They teach Mathayom 1-6 (US grades 7-12) at Mae Tha Phattana Sueksa School. They decided to volunteer with TTC because they love teaching and they love languages and they want to share that love of languages and language learning with their students!

Liz is from Centennial, Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She teaches Matthayom 1-6 at Mae Tha Wittaya. She is passionate about protecting the environment and hopes to get her students excited about it too! She hopes to teach english through experiences, such as hikes in the hills surrounding Mae Tha and community projects to reduce waste! She is thrilled to continue building relationships with her students and community throughout the year.
